Conquered Mount Fansipan!

We made it! On our second day in Sapa we started the trek up mount Fansipan with a group of 19 people total. Most of them were Vietnamese and came from Hanoi doing the trek as a weekend trip, but there was a German guy and a couple from Singapore. The weather was a lot cooler than we expected and unfortunately very foggy and rainy. The conditions were extremely bad and slippery and there were quiet a few dangerous stretched that we had to climb. However there we also beautiful parts that gave a clear view of the mountains. I'm pretty impressed with myself and Jim for succeeding because we had to hike 6 hours yesterday which is something we haven't trained for. We got to the overnight camp at about 5pm last night and ate supper and tried warming up then fell asleep around 7 because we were so tired. They woke us up at 4:20am to eat breakfast and to get ready to begin again. It was freezing but as soon as we started to trek up hill we got sweaty and warmed up quick. After two more hours of trekking through the mud we made it to the top around 7am which is before the gondola's opened up so there was no one else but us at the peak. It was a shame that the peak was in a cloud because we didn't get any view from the top. The group took photos at the top for about an hour till other tourists started to arrive, this was our queue to leave and go home. We as well as half the group decided to take the gondola back down because we were worried that the conditions going down would be too dangerous plus we were tired and just wanted to get back to our hostel to take a hot shower. Overall so glad that we experienced something like this it was kind of crazy at times but I'm glad we both made it back with no broken bones.
